Choosing Your SLR Camera Harness System

Choosing your SLR camera was probably not the easiest feat you ever accomplished. With all of the options available today, making a decision like that can definitely become wearing after time. Now that you have an SLR camera that you feel good about, it’s time to focus on the accessories. For instance, a camera harness system.

Any photographer who is worth his salt will ensure that he or she has an SLR camera harness. This strapping device is important for a variety of different reasons, including:

  • Keeping the camera safe from getting lost
  • Avoiding accidental dropping
  • Enabling it for quick response at a moments’ notice
  • Keeping you comfortable while lugging your camera around
  • More

So what should you be looking for with your camera harness? Well, while many are similar and contain similar features, it’s a good idea to look for one with the following aspects:

  • Adjustable – (Works with or without layers in all seasons.)
  • Durable – (Don’t settle for anything less than a lifetime guarantee – they are out there.)
  • Duel Purpose – (Works with both cameras and binoculars.)
  • Triple Usage – (Can be worn over the neck, across one shoulder or harnessed to the chest.)

If you look for these specifications, (and there are harnesses for the SLR camera that will contain all of these specs,) you will have the perfect strapping device to go along with your perfect camera. Indeed, there is such good to be had with doing your research and not settling for anything less than the best as far as accessories for your photography equipment.

What Is An SLR Harness?

Many people get confused by the term, ‘SLR Harness’. SLR stands for Single Lense Reflex. Harnesses, as we all know, do not have lenses. So what’s with the name? Really, it’s short for the term, “SLR camera harness“. So, it’s a harness that is specifically meant for SLR cameras. These types of cameras are typically much bigger than digital ones. They are much heavier too. It wouldn’t make sense to wrap them around the neck or the wrist, due to their size. That’s where the harness comes in.

The harness doesn’t wrap around the neck or the wrist. Instead, it rests on the shoulders. Since the shoulders were made to carry weight, this makes much more sense than hanging them on the neck. An SLR harness is something that can actually take the weight from the camera and make it seem weightless. This is a big deal to those who are used to lugging around such a heavy piece of equipment from place to place. It’s genius, really.

Imagine it like a back pack but without a pack. So it loops over both shoulders, across the back and underneath each arm. There is no better way to evenly distribute the weight of what is being carried. You’ll barely feel anything and it won’t be in the way, either, because the equipment will be on the chest. You will be able to do everything like you normally would but minus the neck pain. You can’t argue the logic in that. Indeed, an SLR harness is definitely something to consider investing in for the sake of your neck.

Who Would Like An SLR Camera Harness?

If you are trying to think of a good gift for someone and you are unsure of whether or not they would like an SLR camera harness, stick around. We are going to outline the type of people that would love a device like this so that you will know if this gift idea is a good one for them or not. So, who would like something like this and why? Here are our picks:

Professional photographers – why? Well, for starters, all of them have SLR cameras. That would make sense, then, that all of them could use harnesses to match. Furthermore, professional photographers have to carry these heavy cameras all day – usually around their necks. This creates a great deal of neck pain. That’s no good. Using a harness for their SLR camera will help to eliminate that possibility.

Proud papas and mamas – why? Their kids will need to be photographed in their sports games, plays, academic achievements and many other things. Parenting is hands on but it’s also a spectator sport and it’s nice to have a hands free camera harness to help out along the way.

Bird watchers – Do you know anyone who loves to watch birds? It’s their passion. They take it seriously. They have only the best equipment and that equipment needs to be carried carefully.

Hunters – OK, we realize that bird watchers and hunters are in two completely different worlds. It’s just not even socially appropriate to mention them both in the same post; however, hunters love SLR camera harnesses, too.

Anyone with an SLR camera or binoculars – why? Because anyone with these pieces of equipment could use an opportunity to carry them around hands free and without extra neck pain.

What NOT to Do With Your Hands Free Camera Harness

It’s undoubtedly a liberating feeling having your hands free camera harness with you wherever you go. Once your hands are free, there’s nothing holding you back from running around, jumping around, crowching, sitting or standing easily. This is a feeling that many photographers don’t get because their necks are too soar to leave their cameras dangling from them. A hands free camera harness is basically a set of cool camera straps that don’t strain the neck while allowing you to be hands free.

So, what should you NOT do with your hands free camera harness?

You should NOT just set it down anywhere. It’s so easy to loose one of these items. With how small, light and flexible, they can easily be lost, misplaced, dropped or forgotten. That’s why they should only be set down in a few specific places so you will always know where to go looking for them. THis will eliminate the chances of having to replace them which will save you both time and money.

You should NOT loan it around to other people. If you’re a photographer, chances are that you have really gotten attached to your hands free camera harness. This means that you should absolutely make sure to keep this treasure to yourself. If others use it, they’ll most likely mess with the tension and straps to make it fit them instead of you. Once you have a good fit, don’t screw it up! It can take a lot of time and work getting it right back to where you like it.

How Could a Camera Body Harness Speed You Up?

In your day to day worries, you are probably very concerned with speeding up many of your processes. After all, there never seems to be enough time the day. If you could find a way to save some time and make you more efficient, wouldn’t you? The fact of the matter is that a camera body harness can indeed speed you up. It can make you hands free, more efficient and give you the kind of freedom you never thought possible as you attend to your daily duties.

The reason that a camera body harness is able to do all of these things for you is that it can hold either your cameras or your binoculars for you while you do things. This binocular camera harness wonder takes care of your equipment at arms length so you can worry about more important things. It does so without any strain on your neck since the straps are made to wrap around either shoulder. It is also an inexpensive gadget that can be purchased online at your convenience. Indeed, a camera body harness could really speed anyone up because it could actually make sure you have your binoculars or camera with you at all times which will take that worry out of your day. It will also do so without any additional strain on your end. Genius!

Photography Gift Ideas: SLR Camera Harness

Sometimes finding a good photography gift idea is not the easiest thing to do. After all, what can you get a photographer that they don’t already have? An SLR camera harness is actually an option you might want to consider. The reason for this is that many people – photographers included – do not even know what an SLR camera harness is.

You see, every professional photographer (and even many novices) own an SLR camera. These are the heavy duty, heavy cameras that are used to take high quality ipctures. They are often very expensive and definitely much heavier than digital cameras. This is the reason that no photographer – professional or novice – should carry them around with a generic neckstrap. A harness is a much better design for the SLR style because it distributes the weight of the device across the shoulders, chest and back instead of focusing it all on the neck.

SLR Camera Harness

This will be very useful to the photographer in your life whom you’d like to make feel special. They will most likely be very surprised as mentioned earlier because many have never even heard of this useful accessory before. If more photographers knew of the SLR camera harness, more would be wearing them instead of a camera neck strap. So there you have it. It’s a great gift idea for any occasion and will undoubtedly serve as a great reminder that you care about your recipient.

I Found Some Cool Camera Straps

There are definitely some cool camera straps that should be advertised to all the geeks like me who love their cameras. I mean, think about how many photographers out there are dealing with crappy camera straps when they could actually use these ones that solve all their camera strap worries. OK, it just occurred to me that you may not know exactly what I’m talking about at this point. Let me back up…

What would make cool camera straps actually cool? Well, in my opinion it would be a couple of different things. First, they would have to be adjustable. I mean, that right there is a big deal to any photographer. They would also have to be comfortable, though, which is THE biggest deal to any photographer. And well, it’s not often that you find cool camera straps that are actually comfortable. But guess what? I did.

These straps are cool because there are two and they are designed to fit around either shoulder instead of on the neck. (Wow!) Yeah. That’s what I said. Check out this picture of the camera strap that shows exactly what I’m talking about.

It pretty much does everything you might ever need it to do. It is comfortable, adjustable, durable and keeps the camera exactly where you need it at all times – hands free. That sounds like some pretty cool camera straps to me. So there you have it. Those are the cool camera straps I was so excited to show you.

Chest Camera Harness Tips for a Good Fit

If you’ve purchased a chest camera harness, hopefully you’ve purchased one that’s adjustable. After all, every person’s proportion is different. It’s important, then to get an adjustable strap so that it can fit your proportions appropriately. If the harness you acquired does not adjust, send it back. Then get a chest camera harness that does have adjustable straps so you can make it a good fit.

Camera Hiking Harness

Tip #1

Start out with the harness for camera on both your shoulders. The circular ring should be between your shoulder blades on your back. You should have a strap coming up under the arm and circling over the shoulder with two attachment hooks on either side of the chest. This is the best way to start out.

Tip #2

Raise the camera up to eye level to measure how far you’d like your camera to be able to swing. At the same time, reduce the length on the strap so as to create tension while holding the camera at eye level. This will ensure that pictures can be taken while the camera is strapped onto the chest camera harness.

Tip #3

If tension is felt in the shoulders, the straps are too tight. There should be no tension in the shoulders. It should be as comfortable as carrying a backpack and never any tighter. Those who adjust their chest camera harness this way should have no problem when it comes to using it.

How to Find the Best Camera Harness Strap

There are a few different things that everyone should be looking for in a camera harness strap. First, the strap should be in the shape of a camera body harness so as to eliminate neck pain or danger to the equipment as a result of excessive swinging about. This will help you to know that both your neck and your equipment is safe.

Next, the key to finding the best camera harness strap is to look at the back of the harness design. Is it held together by leather or by an adjustable ring? Leather looks nice; however, it’s completely non-functional. An adjustable ring in the back of your harness will allow you to choose weather or not you want to wear your harness over one shoulder or both. This option is phenominal as everyone likes to switch it up now and again. After all, when participating in various activities in the great outdoors, there is need to have the option for both.

Also, something else that will let you know if you’ve got the best camera strap is if the harness in question is guaranteed. No company in their right mind would guarantee a product that will not stand on its own feet. It just isn’t something that’s a justifyable, affordable business practice. Like stores with terrible return policies – they generally sell terrible items and therefore can’t afford to have people continually bringing them back. If the camera harness strap in question is guaranteed, that’s indeed the best way to find out if it’s the best.
