How to Fix a Camera Harness Strap
Sometimes some minor adjustments are necessary in order to salvage a camera harness strap from its demise. After all, no one wants to have to go purchase another one just because a few threads came lose or a part was lost. There are definitely ways of fixing a broken strap for cameras and they can be done by just about anyone.
Rip or Tear
If the camera harness strap has a small rip or tear or has even been completely severed in two pieces, there are some ways to get around that. For a completely severed rip, it’s best to simply sew the two pieces back together using a heavy duty sewing machine. While not everyone has one on hand, it could easily be obtained by asking neighbors or tailors to do. If there is simply a small rip or tear, it’s best to patch it back up with either needle or thread or actually melt the pieces back together using a cigarette lighter. That should be done in a safe place with proper safety precautions.
Lost Metal Ring
You can tell if a camera harness strap is supposed to have a metal ring by reading the camera harness reviews before-hand. If you have purchased one but lost the metal ring, there are a few options. The best option is to get a key ring to replace it with. Usually they are easy to find and inexpensive to purchase. If that is not possible, it’s a good idea to call the manufacturer and ask for a replacement. Better replace the metal ring rather than to have to replace the whole thing.
How Does Your Camera Shoulder Harness Feel?
You can tell a lot by the way your camera shoulder harness feels. It’s meant to be comfortable, believe it or not. If it’s not comfortable, that means there’s something definitely wrong. So you need to ask yourself how it does feel when you’ve got your strapping system on. Don’t just go on auto pilot and don’t just block out how you’re feeling. Recognize it, because that way is the only way you can make things better.
So, is your camera neck strap too tight? If it feels really snug, you have power over that. There are adjustable straps on either side of the camera shoulder harness. You can loosen them and make them feel much better if that is what you would like. No one likes to feel like they are getting pinched or squeezed to death.
On the other hand, if it feels like your camera is bouncing around a bit too much, there may be a little too much slack in your straps. Be sure to tighten them to the point where you can fit two fingers in between your body and the strap. This way, you will not feel the bouncing as much and it also will not be too tight for you. That is exactly how your camera shoulder harness should indeed feel.

Cameras often hold the most precious and priceless memories. They simply cannot be replaced with anything else. That’s another reason it’s good to have a camera safe and at hand for any Kodak moment that might pop by. The saddest thing is when there’s a good picture opportunity and someone doesn’t have their camera on hand. That is really too bad which is why it’s such a good idea to invest in a camera shoulder harness so that you will know your camera is always at arms’ length.
Typically, a camera shoulder harness makes the most sense with an SLR camera.These are the types of cameras that are heavier and bulkier so they can only be realistically toted around with a shoulder harness. If you know of any photographers that are professional or novices, this is indeed a great gift that simply keeps on giving and giving.
I Found Some Cool Camera Straps
There are definitely some cool camera straps that should be advertised to all the geeks like me who love their cameras. I mean, think about how many photographers out there are dealing with crappy camera straps when they could actually use these ones that solve all their camera strap worries. OK, it just occurred to me that you may not know exactly what I’m talking about at this point. Let me back up…
What would make cool camera straps actually cool? Well, in my opinion it would be a couple of different things. First, they would have to be adjustable. I mean, that right there is a big deal to any photographer. They would also have to be comfortable, though, which is THE biggest deal to any photographer. And well, it’s not often that you find cool camera straps that are actually comfortable. But guess what? I did.
These straps are cool because there are two and they are designed to fit around either shoulder instead of on the neck. (Wow!) Yeah. That’s what I said. Check out this picture of the camera strap that shows exactly what I’m talking about.
It pretty much does everything you might ever need it to do. It is comfortable, adjustable, durable and keeps the camera exactly where you need it at all times – hands free. That sounds like some pretty cool camera straps to me. So there you have it. Those are the cool camera straps I was so excited to show you.

Camera Shoulder Harness: Tips for a Proper Fit
It can be hard to decipher if a camera shoulder harness will be a proper fit before trying it on. In fact, not only is it hard – it’s darn near impossible. Those packages that give inch measurements from neck to underarm are all a bunch of bologna (pronounced: bu-lo-ny). I’m not a fan of guessing games which is what can make it so darn annoying to buy a shoulder harness made especially for cameras when it is stuffed into some packaging in a store or purchased online.
The proper fit of a camera shoulder harness is when it is not so tight that you can’t move around comfortably. After all, what is the purpose of wearing one in the first place? The purpose is to move around! Why else would you want your hands free of such a device? Let’s review: a camera shoulder harness should be worn for the purpose of making your hands free to do other things while you roam about care-free, am I right? Of course I am. So, the best fit would be one that is not too tight.
Hold on there, though. It also can’t be too loose. You know what I mean. If it’s sliding down the shoulder onto the arm, it suddenly just lost its whole purpose in life. Its purpose was to keep the darn thing off the arms in the first place. So it must be tight enough to not slide down the arms or shift around. If it’s shifting, the equipment is in danger of hitting something and that, my friends, is no bueno.
So there you have it. It can’t be too loose and it can’t be too tight. Genius. You’re probably wondering if you really needed to read this blog in order to find that out. Well, the best is yet to come… it’s coming… ok, here it is: what is a real useful tip for finding a camera shoulder harness that is sure to fit? Finding one that is adjustable. An adjustable camera harness is the only way to go because then it can be adjusted to fit you with any layer, any time.
